Exactly 30 years after the original Toy Story film was released, establishing the animation giant as a leading animation studio and introducing audiences to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys

In the teaser shows the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is why Woody is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with him. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the badge attached to her shirt.

It is hoped she is still the driving force among the group.
