Lando Norris Edges Out Piastri in Brazilian Practice
Lando Norris has outperformed Oscar Piastri at each of the last five race weekends.
The McLaren driver edged out team-mate and title rival the Australian for the top spot in the final moments of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the title advantage from his teammate by one point after taking the win in Mexico City two weeks ago, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before the sprint shootout scheduled for the evening session.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the points battle, trailing 36 points Norris, finished in 17th place as his Red Bull team followed a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to crash, if briefly, when he spun at the fourth corner soon after starting.
Tsunoda spun out over the track edges before rotating through the escape zone, and was fortunate to get away with just a minor contact of the fence.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also spun, at the very end of the practice, rotating twice through the quick descending Mergulho corner approaching the last turn on to the main straight.
Hamilton wrapped up in 19th place, just behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with the German's car third fastest, 0.619 seconds off the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
